the invisible war

"a farmer went out to sow his seed. as he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. this is the meaning of the parable: the seed is the word of God. those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved."
- from "the parable of the sower", luke 8:5, 11-12

when i heard his message last night, i knew the devil is real, the demons are at work, and they work very very hard to keep people from knowing Jesus, from finding God. i was discouraged because they are so very effective while i am blind, complacent and not very good at fighting the war against them. they have her in their grasp, they are doing everything they can to stop her from hearing the gospel, from encountering God's heart. they draw her away. they tempt her with other things. they rearrange her priorities. and she just goes further and further away from Him.

i was so angry last night. angry at myself for not foreseeing what she would miss if she did not come, disappointed by how the devil is quick to act on her while i am slow to respond. i wanted to cry out, "God, where are You? You're more powerful...where are YOU?!"

i am sick of looking for ways to make up for what she missed. she should have been there last night, hearing those words for herself and seeing God as the Father He is, not the condemning and judgmental being that she thinks she knows.

twice! twice the same message was preached in two different contexts by two different people at two different occasions...and she missed both! she desperately needs to hear God's word!!! how can that be a coincidence? how could it???

aaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!

the invisible war is very real...very real indeed. sigh.
