what a mess of a world we live in!
it's now time for lishun to turn back into normal, sane, mode and start writing reflective journal entries. in other words, welcome back to the world of "rant and rave"! haha.well, my exams are over. don't ask about them. i only have another 15 weeks till my next exam, and most of those 15 weeks will not be spent studying anyway. term 2 is gonna be hell.
but that's not what i really wanted to write about. lately things have been going on that have made the world a little less rosy. not like it's been rosy anyway, but heck. the point is, it just dawned upon me just how screwed up everything is.
while i think peace is really boring - we need conflicts or else we'd have nothing to do - i also think it's totally ridiculous at what lengths humans go to just to stir up trouble. like israel killing the hamas leader. well, sure, the guy killed hundreds of israelis by recruiting suicide bombers, but hasn't it occured to them that by killing him would result in even MORE deaths? already there is talk of world war III.
sigh. and i thought my generation would be the only one born in the 20th century that would live our lives without seeing a full-scale world war.
i personally condemn the way the hamas guy was killed. no doubt there may be justifications on why he deserved to die, but hey, by an air strike? on his way out of a surau? that is just plain cowardice, and designed to spark an outrage. which will cause more innocent israelis and palestinians to die. and THEY don't deserve that.
the whole taiwan thing is freaking me out too. so close to the region i live in. can you imagine if war breaks out there too? my dear country, which is majority muslim, by the way, would not only be caught between the "islam vs the rest of the world" issue, but also struggle to maintain peace in this region. aargh.
sorry. i just get rather worked up by what i read in the newspapers nowadays. it seems so senseless to me. the leaders involved in these conflicts seem to lack the one thing the rest of the world seems to have: common sense.
what a mess of a world we live in!
add those conflicts to the more serious problems of the excess of performance art venues in singapore, the lack of rain in malaysia, the unfair change of university admissions, and the fact that i am killing myself trying to get into australia and you have a whole big pile of, well, mess.
i can't understand it. the longer i live in this world, the more confused i become. why are things so complicated when the solutions are glaringly simple? why is it when people who have money to study can't get into universities while those who do get in have no money?
and why do human beings evolve to have brilliant brains and complex languages, when all these changes lead to our self-destruction? it's against the theory of evolution!
looks like we have not only outdone the rest of the animal kingdom, but have also outdone ourselves. the survival of the fittest no longer applies in this world. now it's more of the survival of the less stupid.
what a mess!
