gulping down my words

just a couple of days ago, a close friend of mine told me that she finds no sense in taking photographs. she said, "why waste time snapping away when it's so much better to live in the moment and take away those memories instead?" or something to that effect.

i countered her statement by saying that one day, she'll regret not taking any photographs during her time in the states, in tanzania, in whatever corner of the world she goes throughout the course of her life. i wasn't successful in changing her mind, and now i know why.

2 years ago, i wrote about the futility of taking photographs. i wrote - and i quote this from that old, old post - "the value of photographs is lost the moment they are taken. there's nothing as genuine as the moment before."

i've just been made to eat my own words, haven't i?
